Building Future Leaders: Headwaters Philanthropic Fellows and Interns
Headwaters believes that innovation in philanthropy will come
by involving a new generation of young people. In 2007 we formalized
mentorship efforts through a graduate level fellows and undergraduate
internship programs. We tap the talents of participants in business,
policy, journalism, and international relations. Students work
on individual and joint projects ranging from community outreach
to research on innovation in philanthropy. Whether coming from
Nepal or Nebraska, our fellows and interns represent the diverse
interests of our clients.
Fellowships
In summer of 2008, Headwaters is supporting summer fellows who
are graduates and students from the Hubert Humphrey Institute of
Public Policy, University of Minnesota. The fellows bring talents
in youth leadership development, nonprofit management, and statistics
analysis to advance Headwaters’ work with clients and the
field of philanthropy.
Internships
Headwaters offers semester-long and summer internships for undergraduate
students studying political science, environmental studies, economics,
and communication. Headwaters is partnering with Macalester College
to engage interns in community outreach and sustainability. Interns
are have undertaken an environmental audit of Headwaters “green” practices
and are working to “green” other small business along
St. Paul’s busy commercial corridor, Grand Avenue. Interns also organize healthy food events for residents
of our local women’s shelter and support the St. Paul City
Ballet through dance scholarships for recent immigrants to St.
Paul.
