About the photographs:
The images on this site suggest just some of the issues Headwaters
and our clients care about: public health and the environment, the
arts, conservation and sustainability, urban and rural community
development, children, and education.
We are proud to include the work of Brian Peterson, photographer
for the Star Tribune's "Voices for the
Land;" Robin Romano, producer, co-director, and director of
photography of "Stolen Childhoods;" and Cheryl Walsh Bellville,
award-winning photographer and children's author.
From August 2000 to September 2001, the Star Tribune
featured the popular series "Voices for the Land," a weekly
offering of photos and essays exalting Minnesota landscapes. From
dirt roads and wooded backyards to the mighty Mississippi, Peterson's
photographs translate the author's words into images and capture
their essence.
Romano's "Stolen Childhoods" is a feature-length documentary
and campaign about the plight of 250 million child laborers worldwide.
The film tells the compelling stories of five children and addresses
ineffective governmental policies, yet it leaves the viewer with
a real sense of what is possible for the future.
Bellville has beautifully documented the private and public lives
of Hmong farmers at the Saint Paul Farmers Market and the Lakota
people in her books, Farmers Market: Families Working Together
and Grandchildren of the Lakota. Her photos capture and
celebrate the human spirit across cultures and generations.
As photojournalists and professional photographers, Peterson, Romano,
and Bellville are committed to an artistic, honest vision that becomes
a call to action. Their vision reflects Headwaters' philosophy of
helping clients use their resources to achieve change in both local
and global communities.
